Pelmets

A pelmet (also called a 'cornice' or 'cornice box' in the United States) is a padded and upholstered box framework placed above a window and is used to conceal curtain headings and fixtures.

Whereas a Valance consists of fabric draped off a horizontal board mounted above the curtain heading and fixtures, a Pelmet consists of a box construction with a facia that projects out in front of the curtain heading and providing greater form in appearance in comparison to a Valance.

Used decoratively to hide the curtain track, Pelmets also help insulate the window by preventing convection currents and is one of the most effecitve forms of insulation enhancement, when used in conjunction with drapes that can be applied to a window treatment solution. 

This treatment option can be created in both traditional and modern styles that allow for different cutout shapes, upholstered finishes, fabrics all supported by face depth that can be tailored to suit the window treatment and look you are going for.

Adding a Pelmet,  can augment both curtain and blind window treatments such as the case of window treatments incorporating Roman, Venetian or Roller Blinds.
